Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context.
Michael Myers returns to kill and rampage while trying to
kidnap the son of his niece.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - A couple of kisses, some talk about sex; a woman's breasts
are exposed in a suggested after-sex scene and we see the genitalia of a naked male
infant.
VIOLENCE/GORE 9 - Many scenes of a killer chasing people, usually through
darkened places. A woman is impaled through the head and her body twitches and drips
blood; another is impaled through the abdomen. Medical personnel is slaughtered and we see
lots of blood and hear screaming -- there are a lot of squishy noises. A man's neck is
snapped and then twisted off. A boy threatens his grandfather with a knife. A washing
machine is filled with blood and supposedly someone's body. A man is electrocuted and foam
comes out of his mouth; his face sizzles and then he explodes into many bloody pieces. A
couple of mutilated bodies. A man is stabbed with syringes and whacked on the head. There
are a few car chases.

PROFANITY 5 - One F-word, many scatological references, some mild
obscenities, a few anatomical references. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Halloween, insanity, revenge.
MESSAGE - Evil never dies. Some people are just evil, not insane.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
