ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Penelope Ann Miller stars as an apprentice wine-merchant,
who, while on a trip to a Scotland castle, discovers a bottle from Napoleon's very own
private stock.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - One scene of nudity, but we see only a naked dancing woman
(no frontal nudity) lightly superimposed on another character dancing. One sex scene,
suggested, but not seen (couple jumps on bed, wakes up together). Some references to sex.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Some torture (with a needle in the eye) and a little
blood. One person is knocked out with a huge wine bottle. Some fist fighting and gun
shots.
PROFANITY 0 - None. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - One character's dream is a formula for youth that will enable
him to have sex every night with dozens of women. Also one suggested sex scene between two
people not married to each other.
MESSAGE - Love could be anywhere.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
