"One of the 50 Coolest Websites...they simply tell it like it is" - TIME

Wolf Creek | 2005 | R | - 4.8.7

Ostensibly based on actual events, this horror story revisits the experience of three young people who travel into the Australian wilderness looking for adventure but find murder and mayhem instead. With Cassandra Magrath, John Jarret, Kestie Morassi, Nathan Phillips and Andy McPhee. Directed by Greg McLean. [1:35]

SEX/NUDITY 4 - A man approaches a young woman who is tied to a pole and makes suggestive remarks and gestures -- he rubs himself against her, and touches her face. A man slams a woman's head against a pole, and then shoves her face into his crotch.
Several men admire two young women who walk into a bar, and they make a remark (in crude terms) to a young man who's with them, asking if they would like to have group sex.
A young woman on the beach takes off her top and swims in the ocean (we see her bare back and panties), two young women are shown on the beach in bikinis that reveal cleavage, bare backs, abdomens and shoulders, and two young women wear low-cut dresses that reveal cleavage. Two young women and two young men wake up on a beach in the morning after a party -- the young women in T-shirts and panties and the young men in T-shirts and shorts.
A young man and a young woman kiss, and she caresses his neck tenderly. A young man kisses a young woman's hand.
A man talks about picking a hitchhiker up and that, "they get real easy when they travel." A young woman talks about a "freakishly hot" guy. Two young women talk about a young man "fancying" one of them.

VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - A man stabs a young woman in the back through a car seat (we see her bleed from the mouth), she falls out of the car and tries to get away, and he swings a knife at her, cutting off three of her fingers (we see them fall to the floor and we see her bloody hand); then he head-butts her, stabs her in the back severing her spine (we hear the crunch) and drops her on the floor (she is still alive but cannot move).
A corpse hangs from a cave wall and is missing from the waist down (we see flesh dangling and part of the spine) and it is suggested that two dogs have eaten the missing parts.
A young woman drives a car frantically, a man chases her in another car and shoots out her car tire; she flips in the car, crawls out, he shoots her in the back (she falls and we see blood on her clothing), he shoots her again at close rang, and puts her body in the car trunk (where there is another body) and burns it.
A man is shot in the eye: blood splatters in the windshield of a car and we see blood and matter on the car and ground around him. A young woman shoots a man in the side of the neck: blood spurts, he falls to the ground, and she hits him with the gun.
A young man is chained to a wall by the wrists and two vicious dogs bark and snarl at him (he screams in agony while pulling his blood-soaked hands free from nails going through his wrists). A young woman sees a decayed, blood stained human corpse in the distance, in the same room where another young woman is bound and has been beaten.
A young woman is tied to a beam, she is bloody, screaming and crying, a man loads a gun, aims it at her and pulls the trigger, but it does not discharge; he then shoots again but the bullet misses her. A man shoots at two young women trying to escape in a truck: they drive frantically and nearly drive over a cliff, and they get out of the car and push it over the side.
A man cuts a young woman loose from her bonds, slams her head against a pole, and then shoves her face into his crotch. A young woman wakes up bound and gagged in a shed; she is frightened (it is implied that the water she and her two friends drank had been drugged), and she uses a shard of glass to cut herself free (she whimpers and moans). We see a sleeping bad with stains of blood on it.
Two young women cling from the side of a sheer cliff trying not to be seen by a man who's following them. Several men in a bar act threateningly toward two young women and a young man and make crude sexual remarks to them.
A car explodes and a man goes to investigate. Three young people are stuck in their car that has died in an isolated area and are frightened when they see lights approaching them.
A man describes a pig taking a dog's head off with its tusks and the dog's legs continuing to move while the blood was spurting. We are told that 30,000 people go missing every year in Australia and only 90% are found and that some are never seen again. A young man talks about a UFO sighting (nothing bad is implied).
A car passes an animal skull hanging on a road sign. A young man urinates and we see the stream of urine. A young man flatulates, and a young man and a young woman burp.

CAVEATS

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.

We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and older reviews are not as complete & accurate as recent ones; we plan to revisit and correct older reviews as resources and time permits.

Our ratings and reviews are based on the theatrically-released versions of films; on video there are often Unrated, Special, Director's Cut or Extended versions, (usually accurately labelled but sometimes mislabeled) released that contain additional content, which we did not review.
