ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Based on the popular video game of the same name, military
pilots try to destroy an alien fleet heading toward Earth with the intent to overtake the
human race. With Freddie Prinze Jr., Matthew Lillard, Saffron Burrows, Jurgen Prochnow,
Tcheky Karyo, Ginny Holder, David Warner and David Suchet. [1:40]
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Sexual innuendo (including a reference to masturbation). Two
kisses, one is passionate. A clothed man and a scantily clad woman are seen snuggling in
bed, obviously post-coital.
VIOLENCE/GORE 5 - Many aircraft are shot and we see them explode. An
aircraft is bombed several times; people are knocked down and we see a few small fires on
board. A pilot crash-lands and apparently dies. Gunfire is exchanged in two scenes; a few
people and aliens are shot, but we don't see any blood. A woman threatens a man with a
gun. Two men have bloody cuts on their heads and one man has blood running down his chin
and in his mouth. A man shoves another.
PROFANITY 4 - A few anatomical references (plus several slang terms), many
scatological references, several mild obscenities and a couple insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Space exploration and travel, war, death, prejudice,
friendship, loyalty, loss of parents.
MESSAGE - Never give up, even when the odds are against you.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
