1 to 10

MPAA Rating: PG-13

A modern retelling of the classic tale.

SEX/NUDITY 3 - Sexual innuendo, passionate kissing. Romeo and Juliet kiss bare chested and are lying naked in bed (only his bare chest and her bare shoulders are seen. They have supposedly had sex the night before).

VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - Fireballs, gang shoot-outs. A man is shot and falls, and there is some blood on his torso and face. A woman shoots herself and there is some splattered blood on her face. A man drinks poison and dies convulsing and a man has his abdomen sliced with a piece of glass -- some blood. A car crash with two people getting hurt and blood on the asphalt. Threatening with guns, vicious beating with punches and kicks. For an extended scene a few people are quite bloody (face, torso, clothing). Guns are held to peoples heads a few times.

PROFANITY 1 - A couple of anatomical references. [profanity glossary]

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Shakespeare, gang warfare, feuding families, falling in love.

MESSAGE - Not only is love blind, hate is blind too.

Our Ratings Explained

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
