Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Woody Harrelson, is a white-bread who's actually a pretty
good basketball player and Wesley Snipes is his budding buddy, with whom he roams the
urban basketball courts of Venice, California hustling.
SEX/NUDITY 6 - Several explicit sex scenes between Woody Harrelson and his
girlfriend and Wesley Snipes and his wife. Several shots of upper frontal nudity, and
total rear nudity.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - One bungled attempt at robbing a corner grocery store, but
the perpetrator is recognized by the shop owner and he ends up asking for a loan instead.
A couple of hoods keep chasing Woody and threatening him, but nothing really serious comes
of it. People shove each other on the court.

PROFANITY 9 - Multiple use of the F-word and its derivatives. Assorted crude
insults and a lot of verbal assaults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Gambling, hustling and loan-sharking.
MESSAGE - People of different colors can be friends. We all share the same
problems and we all need to pull together and help each other. Being dishonest is fine, as
long as it is with strangers and not friends.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
