Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Annabella Sciorra stars as a psychiatrist who becomes
psychologically involved with one of her patients, a sensual blonde who insists on
relating her sexual escapades -- which involve bondage. Then the blonde is found
strangled.
SEX/NUDITY 8 - Total female nudity. The opening scene depicts a foggy
dream-like sexual encounter. Side view of a nude woman hanging by the neck. Police photos
of women's bodies after having been beaten and abused. Sexual fantasies and obsessions are
a major theme, especially depictions of bondage.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - 5 violent deaths. One man falls out of a window; we hear
the crash as he lands on the roof of a car, and we see the results with his twisted body
laying in a pool of blood. A woman shown hanging by the neck. A man stabbed in the chest,
and a man axed in the head. Most of the scenes of violence are shown after the fact.

PROFANITY 6 - F-word and lots of detailed descriptions of sexual acts and
fantasies. Very explicit, sexually-oriented language used throughout. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Sexual dysfunction, sexual obsession, murder, trust.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
