Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
A picture-perfect life is shattered when Andy Garcia
discovers his wife's (Meg Ryan) alcoholism. The couple must then work on putting the
shards back together.
SEX/NUDITY 4 - Some passionate kisses and lots of hugging, and a few oblique
references to a poor sex life. One scene presumably ends up in a couple having sex, but we
only see them rolling around on the floor. Ryan is shown naked through a shower door
although not much is seen, and her bare behind is shown later (she is obviously completely
naked, but all else is covered).
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Ryan and Garcia "egg" a car, Ryan falls into
water and is shown unconscious, Ryan falls through a shower door -- no blood is shown, but
her face is bruised. Ryan and Garcia yell at each other a lot, and at their young
daughters a few times. Ryan slaps her young daughter across the face. And, the violence of
alcoholism and detoxification is shown.

PROFANITY 6 - About 12 F-words, about 8 scatological terms and a few milder
profanities. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
