Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
"The Walking Dead" details the African-American
experience in the Vietnam War.
SEX/NUDITY 4 - A woman and man are shown in bed together, briefly; we see
shoulders and upper chests, and there's thrusting and moaning. A man and woman slow dance
together and kiss, and fall in bed together hugging and kissing. There is a great deal of
graphic talk about sex and women.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - Many scenes of war violence with explosions and shootings,
resulting in injured and dead soldiers. A man's throat is slit and a few men are killed by
stabbing and some men are killed by many bullets ripping through their bodies. A man and
woman are shot off screen. A bag of maggot covered ears is briefly shown. A man bites the
head of his comrade and a bloody patch is later shown. A woman is stabbed in the eye.

PROFANITY 10 - 83 F-words, many scatological terms and milder obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Vietnam War, racism, adultery, premarital sex, friendship.
MESSAGE - Racism destroys lives as does war, your friends are what matters.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
