Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman star in this political
satire about a sex scandal that threatens the President's re-election.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Sexual innuendo and discussions of sexual impropriety. Part
of a woman's bare buttocks are seen. A man and woman are shown in bed apparently after
sex. A young female bombing victim is shown running nude. Discussions of rape.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - A man is shot off screen. Another man is shot twice off
screen. A woman is apparently attacked by a rapist (off screen).

PROFANITY 7 - A couple dozen F-words, many scatological and anatomical
references, and many mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Political strategy, spin control, cynisism, democracy, the
press.
MESSAGE - Politics and the media make strange and dangerous bed fellows.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
