A hired killer and loner (Nicolas Cage) is hired to make four kills in Bangkok, Thailand. But he forgets his vow to never get involved with any of his assignments and during the last assassination he gets confused by emotional entanglements and moral questions. Disaster Movie [2008] [PG-13] - 7.8.5
Parody of other films, with five people (Matt Lanter, Vanessa Minnillo, Gary "G-Thang" Johnson, Nicole Parker and Crista Flanagan) screaming and crying their way through a series of never-ending disasters that include earthquakes, tornado funnels, the clash of mentally ill superheroes, rabid rodents, wind storms, and more. Characters die repeatedly and reappear in other disasters, but the protagonists survive. Also with Carmen Electra and Ike Barinholtz. Directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer. [1:30]

Pineapple Express [2008] [R] - 5.7.10
A man (Seth Rogen) who witnesses a murder drops a cigarette of a rare type of marijuana at the scene and later realizes that it can be traced directly to him and his dealer (James Franco). The two men run away, chased by the drug lord (Gary Cole) and the corrupt police officer (Rosie Perez) who committed the murder. Also with Craig Robinson, James Remar, Joe Lo Truglio, Arthur Napiontek, Jonathan Walker Spencer, Danny R. McBride, Amber Heard, Ed Begley, Jr., Bobby Lee, Nora Dunn and Bill Hader. A depressed high school senior (Josh Peck) preparing for graduation also runs a successful marijuana dealing business from an Italian ice cart, which he pushes through the streets without raising suspicion. When he meets a psychiatrist (Ben Kingsley), he exchanges drugs for counseling, and strikes up a relationship with the psychiatrist's stepdaughter (Olivia Thirlby). The presidential race is in a tie, and one single vote is going to decide the outcome. After an election day glitch keeps his vote from being counted, an underachieving single dad (Kevin Costner) has 10 days to recast his vote and he becomes an international celebrity, courted by the media and the candidates (Kelsey Grammer and Dennis Hopper). Meanwhile his 12-year-old daughter (Madeline Carroll) -- the smarter of the two -- tries to keep him focused on the importance of his decision. Also with Nathan Lane, Stanley Tucci and George Lopez. When a man (Jason Biggs) can no longer bare being the "friend" to the woman (Kate Hudson) he loves, he resorts to the extreme measure of hiring his friend (Dane Cook) to take her out and pretend to be the most uncouth cad, thus causing her to realize how lucky she is to have him. Mirrors [2008] [R] - 5.8.5
A troubled, former NYC detective (Kiefer Sutherland) encounters an alternate reality and a special kind of evil when he takes a night watchman job in an abandoned building. Fearing for the safety of his family, he keeps his promise to his wife (Paula Patton) and does whatever it takes to keep evil at bay. Also with Cameron Boyce, Erica Gluck and Amy Smart. Appaloosa [2008] [R] - 5.7.5
In the late 1800s, two longtime friends and business partners (Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen) are called to a small New Mexico town to relieve the townspeople from the constant threat a gang of bullies poses. Adapted from the classic novel by Evelyn Waugh: A young man's (Ben Whishaw) life is forever changed after meeting the family that lives in the palatial Brideshead. In a place called Malaria, the sun never shines and evil scientists abuse hunchbacks, referred to as Igors, in an effort to create the most diabolically evil creations. When one such scientist is not careful, he blows himself up leaving his Igor (John Cusack) with the idea of creating his own evil creature. In the process he and the others discover that they don't have to be evil to survive. The grisly self-inflicted death game run by "Jigsaw" continues in this fifth installment, which consists of many flashbacks and points to evidence that there may be a new gamester taking over. Henry Poole Is Here [2008] [PG] - 2.3.4
After being diagnosed with an incurable disease, Henry Poole (Luke Wilson) leaves his fiancée and successful business and returns to the street where he grew up in order to live, in his own way, the six remaining weeks in his life. However, the discovery of what some of his neighbors consider a religious miracle interrupts Poole's solitude. Also with Cheryl Hines, George Lopez, Adriana Barazza and Rahad Mitchell. A husband (Kirk Cameron) and a wife (Erin Bethea) whose paths have grown farther and farther apart try to find a way to stay together by using the counseling found in a book called the "Love Dare." Two women (Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson) take a long summer vacation together in Spain, where they meet an artist (Javier Bardem), and both fall for him, even though one is has a fiancé back home. Meanwhile, the artist's ex-wife (Penelope Cruz) shows up and she seems to be insane, as well as insanely interested in her ex-husband. Also with Patricia Clarkson and Kevin Dunn. Lakeview Terrace [2008] [PG-13] - 5.4.5
A man and woman (Patrick Wilson, Kerry Washington) buy their first home and move into a hillside neighborhood feeling fortunate that their next door neighbor is a police officer (Samuel L. Jackson). Pride and Glory [2008] [R] - 6.8.10
The Tierney family has a long history of police service. After 4 officers are shot down in the line of duty one of the Tierney sons (Edward Norton) leads the task force organized to find the killers. When the evidence points in a direction he is not happy to follow, he must choose between doing the right thing and protecting his fellow officers. British film about two small-time gangsters (Gerard Butler and Idris Elba) who find themselves in the middle of a robbery scheme that pits the local and very unscrupulous crime boss (Tom Wilkinson) against a ruthless Russian billionaire. Rainn Wilson stars as a drummer who was fired from a 1980s rock band, but has not given up on his dream to one day drum again. Having lived next to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for twenty years, he's delighted when he hears about his nephew's high school rock band needing a new drummer, and he convinces the teens to take him on.
