ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

A group of criminals gets involved in a heist gone awry.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - A woman's blouse is yanked down during a rape (see Violence/Gore below) but the scene is blurry; her breasts are barely visible.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - Many scenes of men with guns and many men are shot and
killed (with some blood). Two men are killed in an elevator leaving bloody smears. A man
shoots another man at point-blank (we just hear the shots). We see a bloody corpse and
charred bodies are brought out of the water. A badly burned man is shown in a few scenes.
A man staggers around with a knife in the back of his throat. Men attack and rape a
family; the father kills his own family during the attack and then walks away in a blaze
of fire. Much talk of violence that isn't shown.
PROFANITY 9 - 30+ F-words, 35+ scatological terms, and many milder
obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Professional criminals, police interrogations.
MESSAGE - The truth is found in unexpected places.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
