Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
A famous rock star's freewheeling
daughter (Brittany Murphy) is left with an inheritance after his
death and expects to continue as the toast of the Manhattan social
scene. However, when her inheritance is embezzled, she is forced to
look for a job. She becomes the nanny of a neglected, precocious
8-year-old girl (Dakota Fanning) and together they learn to trust
each other and have fun. Also with Heather Locklear, Jesse Spencer
and Donald Faison. Directed by Boaz Yakin. [1:32]
SEX/NUDITY 4 - A woman caresses a man's bare chest
with a sheet and asks "is it bedtime?" A man feeds a woman candies,
she eats them seductively, and they kiss. A man and a woman kiss. A
bare-chested man is surrounded by women in skimpy outfits and they
caress him as he sings (during a music video). A woman puts on a
negligee and looks at a man suggestively. A woman licks a man's neck
after taking a shot of alcohol, and a woman kisses a man's arm and
flirts with him. A woman calls for a man from another room (they
have presumably had sex). Men and women dance together in a
nightclub. Two women dance together seductively, and a woman jumps
into a man's arms and they hug. Women wear dresses and outfits that
reveal cleavage, bare abdomens, bare backs to the hip and bare legs.
A man is bare-chested in a couple of scenes. A woman takes off a
man's shirt she's wearing, and we see her bare back and shoulders. A
man takes off his shirt and we see him bare-chested and a woman
takes off his boxer shorts (she's wearing them) and returns them to
him (we see her bare legs). People discuss a man's vow of celibacy,
and a woman makes a sexual remark while she sleeps.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - A woman talks about her parents
having died in a plane crash. A girl slaps a woman in the face, the
woman slaps the girl in the face, and the girl punches the woman in
the stomach repeatedly. Two girls fight (one is on top of the other
on the ground) and two women fight (one is on top of the other on
the ground). A man lies in a bed in a coma, with tubes attached to
him. A woman and a girl fight over a plate and it crashes to the
floor. A woman is hit in the face by a swinging door (the woman has
a bloody nose). A woman jumps off a bridge and into shallow water:
we hear that the water is contaminated and see the woman in bed with
a fever later. A sheet of cookies catch fire and a woman uses a
jacket to try to extinguish it and the jacket catches on fire. A man
grabs a young girl and drags her out of a bathroom as she yells
insults at him. Two women slip in soap suds and fall onto the floor.
The heel of a woman's shoe breaks and she stumbles, and a closet
shelf and rod break and dump clothing on a woman's head. A woman
runs into a street with traffic speeding by to hail a cab. A young
woman imagines her face as old and wrinkled as she looks in a
mirror. A woman is evicted from her apartment. A girl vomits (we
hear gagging), a girl coughs and spits into a garbage can, and two
women blow their noses in a man's handkerchief and return it to him
used.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
