ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Ray Liotta tries to track down his wife's murderer by
injecting himself with her spinal fluid, thereby retrieving her memories.
SEX/NUDITY 5 - Sexual innuendo. In a flashback a man spreads a woman's legs
and climbs on top of her; we hear moaning (no nudity). Naked corpses are shown in a
morgue; one male has his genitals uncovered and we can see hair (in background, his
obesity hides his crotch), the others are covered or in deep background.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - Some deaths by gunshot seen over and over again (as
flashbacks) and there is a lot of blood; the back of a head explodes (with splattering)
due to a gunshot. There is an explosion. A man beats and shoves his wife and child. A
child hits a dog with a hammer. A man is strangled and beaten; there's blood streaming out
of his mouth. A woman is hit and falls and is then hit with a poker (we hear a thud and
see the bloody poker).
PROFANITY 8 - About 30 F-words, some scatological references and mild
obscenities, a couple of anatomical references. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Murder, revenge, weird science.
MESSAGE - If you've been unjustly accused, you must try to clear your name.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
