ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

A killer (Ray Liotta) takes over a plane when he's being
transported across the country.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - Sexual innuendo; a woman offers herself to a man to hopefully
keep from being killed and she starts to undress but no nudity is shown (we only see her
undergarments).
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - Scuffles, a man is kicked in the face, a few times people
are hit in the face or head (a man has a bloody nose after one of these scenes) with fists
or objects. Threatening with guns. A woman is strangled to death. Falls, chases, a man has
his leg crushed by a door. The plane nearly crashes during the flight, and does crash
through a hotel, parking garage and billboard. Many people are shot to death with some
blood, a man is stabbed (more blood). Corpses are placed in their seats, some blood on a
man and woman due to fights, etc. Explosions and fires.
PROFANITY 7 - About 20 F-words, some scatological references, some mild
obscenities, a few anatomical references. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Hijacking, serial killers, murder.
MESSAGE - When your life is threatened you are able to do things you didn't
think you could do.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
