ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Another action juggernaut from director James Cameron, with
Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a secret agent so secret his wife thinks he's boring.
SEX/NUDITY 4 - While there is no frontal nudity, apart from cleavage, there
is a scene which depicts a woman doing a very arousing striptease where she fondles
herself a lot. Also, one character spends all of his time trying to sleazily seduce a
woman and winds up between her clothed legs.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - In all, approximately 75-100 bad guys are killed in
various ways throughout the movie: People are stabbed, necks are broken, Arabs run about
ablaze with flames upon their backs, women have cat fights, one woman is slapped hard
across the face twice by a villain, and there are threats of extreme torture. A man is
chased by machine gunners on skis and snowmobiles, and he picks off each one of them. Two
men are killed in a shopping mall restroom; there's plenty of blood. A man in a jet chases
down and kills a couple dozen more bad guys.
PROFANITY 7 - F-words, scatological and anatomical references, as well as
sexual innuendos are used. Many misogynistic comments. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Honesty, infidelity, trust between loved
ones, negative Arab
stereotypes.
MESSAGE - Honesty is the best policy.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
