Several current and former corrupt police officers (Chiwetel Ejiofor, Norman Reedus, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul and Clifton Collins Jr.) operate together to pull off robberies for a Russian mob boss and his ruthless wife (Kate Winslet). Needing extra time for one robbery they decide to cause a "Triple 9," which is police code for an officer down; they plan to kill their leader's new partner (Casey Affleck). Also with Gal Gadot, Woody Harrelson and Michelle Ang. Directed by John Hillcoat. [1:55]

SEX/NUDITY 7 - A strip club scene shows men gathered around women wearing skimpy tops and thongs and dancing on stage: women remove their tops and we see bare breasts (one man presses his head between a woman's bare breasts) and bare buttocks as the dancers gyrate and one woman wraps her legs around a man's head. A fully nude man is shown dead in a morgue (the shot is blurry so details are not clear but we see the general outlines of genitals, bare chest and abdomen). A man is shown fully nude and lying on his stomach on a bed (we see his bare back and buttocks). A man is shown shirtless and we see his bare chest and abdomen. A woman is shown huddled in a shower and wearing a bra (we see cleavage) while a man holds a knife to her throat (please see the Violence/Gore category for more details). A woman wearing a skimpy outfit that reveals legs to the hip dances on top of a dumpster as police officers try to get her to come down. A bare-chested man is seen as he changes his shirt. A woman wears low-cut dresses that reveal cleavage in several scenes. A woman wears a very short, low-cut skirt and shows cleavage. Several men are shown in a sauna and they are wrapped with towels around their waist (we see their chest and abdomen). We see several shirtless men with many tattoos in a few scenes. A few women are shown wearing bikinis at poolside (cleavage, bare abdomens and backs are seen). A woman wears a low-cut tank top and shorts that reveal cleavage. A woman wears skimpy clothing (we see cleavage) while walking along a street (it's implied that she is a prostitute).
A wife wearing a short T-shirt that reveals her bare legs speaks to her husband, kisses him, straddles him while seated, kisses him again and invites him to bed; when she walks away we see her bare buttocks. A woman wearing a short jacket that reveals cleavage and bare abdomen removes the jacket to show her bra as she walks into a room in a man's apartment (sex is implied).
A wife kisses her husband goodbye when she drops him off at work. A husband and his wife kiss passionately.
A man with a gun forces a woman lying on the floor to place a handkerchief in her lips to leave a lipstick mark during a robbery. A man smacks a woman on the clothed buttock.
A man asks another man, "How can you love a dog more than a woman?" A woman remarks about her sister having a nice derriere (using crude terms). A woman says, "We train our dogs to [F-word deleted] our prisoners."

VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - A limousine is seen in flames and a car nearby is shown with three severed heads on the hood (we see bloody necks and a close-up of one of the faces splattered with blood) and a bloody handprint. A woman's dead body is shown blood-soaked and left in a shopping cart on a street. Two people are shown bound and gagged in the trunk of a car (both are bloody on their faces and clothing); a man outside the car holds up a bag filled with bloody teeth and it is implied that the teeth have been forcibly extracted from the people in the trunk. We see blood smeared plastic and bloody feet in the back of a truck as we hear the muffled yells of a man wrapped in the plastic. We see a blood soaked tarp in the trunk of a car.
A car rolls into a wall and several armed police officers rush toward it: a man inside is seen with a plastic bag over his head and when one office removes the bag the man gags and spits up a lot of blood (we hear him wheezing) until one officer puts the bag back on the man's head and shoots him (we hear the shots and see the bag splattered with blood). Two men wrestle over a gun until a third man shoots one of them in the head (blood splatters and we see blood on the bullet wound) and the other man shoots the wounded man in the chest twice. A man is shot in the head twice and slumps over in his car dead (we hear splatter). Two men shoot each other in a car; one man is shot in the head and falls over dead while the other is shot in the abdomen and we see his shirt and face splattered in blood (we assume that they both die). An explosive device detonates in a car and we see a large burst of flames, and then see the rubble with a charred body on the ground nearby and the burning remains of a body still inside the car. Two armed police officers enter a public housing building and search through the building, they get separated, one finds a man with a gun and yells for him to put the gun down as another armed man runs through the hallway shooting (one man is struck and falls to the ground bloody and gasping), and then another officer enters and is shot in the head as he shoots the wounded man a few more times (we see blood spray). Two men speed away in a van and are shot at repeatedly by police (we hear grunts from inside the van and see one man has been shot through the hand with a bloody hole visible).
Smoke bombs explode inside a moving van and the driver swerves through traffic before stopping on a busy road; armed men inside the van get out covered with paint and threaten drivers in cars around them as one of them climbs on the hood of a car and begins shooting (we see a woman with blood on her chest, presumably shot); one gunman breaks out the window of a car and forces the driver out, then steals the car and speeds away as an explosive detonates and blows up their first vehicle.
Two men shoot a security guard with a taser and tie him up, then enter a building where they shoot several more guards with tasers and attach explosive devices to the head of one and the ankle of another; the ankle explosive is detonated and blows the man's lower leg nearly off (we see blood spray and the man falls to the floor screaming).
Armed police carrying shields and wearing bullet proof vests move toward an apartment as gunfire breaks out from inside the building; the officers move into the building and search rooms and hallways, then chase the shooter out and onto a street as more gunfire is exchanged (one officer is shot in the vest and is OK). Several armed men run into a bank, shoot their guns in the air, taser a security guard and tie him up, yell at the people in the bank and one man is held around the neck and his family is threatened in order to access a safety deposit box, and then shove him to the floor. A man holds a knife to a woman's throat as she cries and another man on the phone with him pleads for him to leave her alone (we see the woman's bruised face, and the attacker leaves her).
A man gets into his car and another man in the back seat puts a plastic bag over his head; the first man struggles and gasps as the bag is closed around his face. A man is punched and kicked, then his attacker steps on his hand and fires his weapon next to his ear (we hear ringing and moaning). A man yells at and punches another man repeatedly before kicking him down a flight of stairs (we see the man with blood on his nose and mouth). A police officer yells in a bar and draws his weapon while calling other patrons names (he seems drunk). A police officer questions several men on a street and one becomes confrontational and moves toward the officer who puts him on his knees and handcuffs him.

A man yells at another man in a car, shoves him and tells him to get out before speeding away. A video shows a car driving along a street and it explodes (we do not see victims). A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.

INAPPROPRIATE ADS? We have little control over ads since we belong to ad agencies that serve ads automatically; a standing order should prevent provocative ads, but inappropriate ads do sneak in.
