Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
A night in the lives of an aspiring Broadway songwriter
(Christian Campbell) and a hunky go-go dancer (John Paul Pitoc) who trek around New York
City trying to find a place to be alone. Also with Tori Spelling, Stephen Hayes, Clinton
Leupp, Lorri Bagley, Kevin Chamberlin, Lacey Kohl, Missi Pyle, Brad Beyer, Will Keenan,
Helen Hanft, Eric Bernat and Michele Brilliant. [1:29]
SEX/NUDITY 7 - Lots and lots of sexual innuendo (including references --
sometimes graphic -- to fellatio, sodomy, size of male genitalia, lesbianism,
homosexuality, ejaculation, bestiality, orgies, ménage a trois and prostitution) and some
kissing, sometimes passionate (a couple of kisses are between a man and woman and a couple
are between men). A man takes off his shirt, unzips his pants (we see some of his
underwear), lies on a bed, puts another man's hand on his chest and moves it toward his
crotch (the man pulls his hand away); later, one rubs the other's chest, both remove their
pants (we see them both in their underwear) and one sits underneath a piano while the
other plays (it's implied that he wants to perform fellatio on the other, but nothing
happens, nothing is visible, and they both eventually get dressed again). We see a man
wrapped in a sheet and a woman holding a sheet over her chest, interrupted by a couple of
men during intercourse; the woman eventually drops the sheet and we see her bare breasts
for an extended period of time while she talks to the men. We see the bare back of a man
lying on top of a woman and kissing her passionately; also, we see a shirtless man and
sheet-covered woman in bed together, presumably post-coitus. A man propositions another
and a man licks his lips while looking at another. During an extended bar scene, a man
wearing a thong (most of his bare buttocks is visible) dances suggestively in front of
many men (a few put money in the front of his thong). We see part of a man's bare buttocks
when he shows a few others a tattoo there. We see lots of shirtless men dancing in a club.
VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - A man playfully slaps another's face. We hear a few men
urinate. A woman tells a story about a man who writes descriptive poetry about feces.
the review continues below...
PROFANITY 6 - About 6 F-words, several anatomical references and slang
terms, lots of scatological references and a couple of mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Homosexuality, one-night stands, falling in love,
unfaithfulness, songwriting for Broadway, the theater.
MESSAGE - Spending the night with someone without sexual contact is a better
way to get to know him (or her) and begin a potential relationship.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
