Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Bill Paxton and William Sadler star as two small-town
fire-fighters who are searching for buried treasure in an abandoned building in a big-city
neighborhood of East St. Louis.
SEX/NUDITY 0 - None.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - More weapons and gunfire than in most war movies: the
gangsters seem to be adding more weapons to their arsenal by the minute. Two murders in
which victims are beaten, shot and then thrown down through several floors of the
building. One suicide and several more killings as a result of gunplay and explosions. A
few old-fashioned fist fights. Also one disturbing scene in which a character stabs
another in the neck with a needle loaded with heroin.

PROFANITY 8 - Lots of profanity, ranging from the scatological to the
F-word. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Greed, revenge, suicide, drug addiction, corruption and
betrayal, and racial stereotypes.
MESSAGE - Money (as well as lust for wealth) will corrupt many and may blind
you to dangers, as well as to the "right path" in life.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
