Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
The infamously unsinkable ship sinks in this love story
directed by James Cameron.
SEX/NUDITY 5 - Kissing, sexual innuendo. A couple (obviously naked) with the
man on top after sex -- although nothing is shown. An extended scene where a woman's bare
breasts are seen as she poses nude. Some drawings of nude women.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - Some scuffles, a face slap, some face punches (one
resulting in a bloody nose). A man is hit in the abdomen. Titanic hits the iceberg which
results in rioting, threatening with guns, drownings and people falling down with audible
thuds and into frigid water. Several chases. A man is shot and killed with blood coming
out of his mouth and bloody spots on his life-jacket. A man shoots himself in the head (no
blood). A man is electrocuted. Blood is seen on a man's face. Many floating, frozen
bodies.

PROFANITY 6 - One F-word, one profane hand gesture, many British expletives,
a few anatomical references, many scatological references and mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - The haves and have-nots, history, maritime disaster.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
