Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
It's 1905 and a young boy tries to protect his farm from
ruthless developers with help from such heroes as Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan, John Henry and
Calamity Jane.
SEX/NUDITY 0 - None.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - A man is shot (off-camera) and seriously wounded. Two
creeps hold a boy at gunpoint. One creep's trigger finger is shot off. The dismembered
finger is found later, stuck on a skewer. There are two barroom brawl-type fights, with
plenty of punching, etc; no blood. A man is hit twice with a whip. There is a gunfight
involving a group of men, but it is unclear what, if any, injuries occur. A guy gets hit
in the groin with a pole. Some other guys get knocked silly with the same pole. A man is
buried in a collapsed tunnel.

PROFANITY 1 - An anatomical reference or two and a milder profanity. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Defending the homestead & family.
MESSAGE - Stories and symbols can inspire people to achieve great things.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
