Comedy written by and starring the five-man comedy group Broken Lizard about a group of inept highway patrol troopers stationed in the Vermont boonies who spend their time toying with suspects. But when their station is to be axed due to budget cuts, they try to behave to impress their superiors and inadvertently uncover a drug smuggling operation. With Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Marisa Coughlan and Lynda Carter. [1:43]

SEX/NUDITY 8 - A man is de-loused (sprayed with water, scrubbed with a brush and sprinkled with powder that turns out to be powdered sugar) and we see him fully nude from the front and back; his genitals are seen briefly. A man frisks a woman and touches her all over (she seems to be enjoying it), they begin kissing passionately, she pushes him onto the hood of a car and climbs on top of him, he handcuffs her and they continue kissing. A man and woman kiss passionately a few times; one time they end up on a bed in a Winnebago, and another time they end up in the back seat of a police car (it is suggested that they have sex but nothing else is shown). A woman is shown topless while she and a bare-chested man bounce on a bed (it is suggested that there is some kind of sexual activity taking place). A man masturbates in his car; we see him moving rhythmically and hear him moaning. A man pretends to be having sex with a bear (it's just a bear costume) and we see him moving rhythmically as people watch. A woman tries to bribe a man with sexual favors; she talks about sexual activities and she opens her skirt to expose her thighs and panties and her top is open which exposes her bra and cleavage. It is suggested that two couples are about to have sex together. A man tickles two men in the crotch with a feather. A man in a trenchcoat flashes a woman several times (he's wearing jockey shorts). We see a calendar of a topless woman, and we see a sex doll blown up and tied to the roof of a car. A man is shown in a bulletproof jockstrap and his bare buttocks are seen a couple of times. A man in his underwear is handcuffed to a toilet. A woman is shown in a bikini top and a skirt that is slit up the thigh, exposing cleavage, her bare midriff and bare thigh. A man is seen bare-chested in a locker room scene, another man is seen bare-chested and in his boxer shorts, and another man is seen covered with shaving cream (we can't really tell what, if any, clothing he's wearing underneath). A man taps a man's genitals. There are sexual references: young men talk about a naked girl, a man walks into the back of a semi-truck where two men have been trapped and says "it stinks like sex in here," a man talks about having gotten a sexually transmitted disease, there's a reference to someone being naked in a dream.

VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - A woman is found dead with her head in a bowl of pig food. There are several brawls between highway troopers (men) and local police officers (men and a woman) which include punching, kicking, head-butting and body slamming; several people end up with bloody faces. A man tackles and hits a young man, and a man is shown being attacked by a busload of school children. A man in a bulletproof jockstrap is shot twice and he is thrown back onto the ground. A car is shot at repeatedly (no one is inside). There's a camper with a squealing pig inside, a man goes in and he comes back out with a bloody mouth. A man running from highway troopers pretends to have shot the troopers (we hear the gunshots). Two highway trooper cars (one has three civilians in the back seat) chase another car along a highway; the speeding car knocks the head off a mannequin, and the head sticks out of yet another car. A woman threatens a man with a shotgun. A car drives very fast down a highway, it is cut off by another car and the driver of the second car comes out with a gun (this happens twice). A woman is hit in the chin by a baseball; we see her later with a bruise. A man is kicked in the crotch, a man is punched in the crotch, and a man is tasered in the crotch. A young man runs into a man who's wearing a bulletproof vest and he's knocked out, a man throws two plastic bottles that hit another man in the head and a fight nearly breaks out. A man shoves a huge cotton candy into another man's face, a man is handcuffed to a toilet, and a man threatens a woman. Two men slam into each other with riot shields and they both fall down, and a young man acts as a target duck and people throw food at him. A man drives a car into a mailbox, and a group of men vandalize a man's house. A man chugs several beers and we see him vomiting into a toilet, and two men chug bottles of maple syrup. A man urinates on the side of another man's car.

PROFANITY 10 - 46 F-words, 3 obscene hand gestures, a cartoon monkey is seen making an obscene hand gesture repeatedly, 39 scatological terms, 3 sexual references, 28 anatomical terms, 25 mild obscenities, 14 religious profanities, 10 religious exclamations, 1 derogatory term for police officers, 3 derogatory references to a man's ethnicity and other insults. [profanity glossary]

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Afghanistan, the Taliban, drug smuggling, Canada, police corruption.

MESSAGE - You can't fight budget cuts. High jinks and corruption are not the same thing.

(Note: Adults and young men and women -- under 21 -- are shown smoking marijuana, eating marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms and drinking alcohol to the point of inebriation.)

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.

INAPPROPRIATE ADS? We have little control over ads since we belong to ad agencies that serve ads automatically; a standing order should prevent provocative ads, but inappropriate ads do sneak in.
