ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Similar in style to last year's "Enchanted
April," "The Summer House" is a story about unrequited love.
SEX/NUDITY 4 - Several brief sex scenes, where the people involved are fully
clothed (they are done in a comedic fashion, and they are not explicit). A woman daydreams
that her fiance serves her breakfast in the nude (the scene is suggestive, but we don't
see anything). And several flashback scenes where a young woman thinks about having sex
with her lover; no nudity.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Only one scene has some gore: There's a human
sacrifice/murder scene and a brief shot of a rather bloody woman lying in a crocodile pit
with her neck slit.
PROFANITY 2 - A few mild profanities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Adultery, murder, growing pains (of young and old).
MESSAGE - If you follow your heart, you can't go wrong.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
