Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
A popular high school cheerleader gets pregnant and
convinces her fellow cheerleading friends to help her rob a bank so she'll be able to
provide for the baby. With Marley Shelton, James Marsden, Marla Sokoloff, Mena Suvari,
Rachel Blanchard, W. Earl Brown, Melissa George, Jake Hoffman, Alexandra Holden, Nate
Maher and Sara Marsh. [1:20]
SEX/NUDITY 5 - Lots of sexual innuendo, including references to wet dreams,
male genitalia, incest, lesbianism, and prison sex. A few instances of passionate kissing.
A girl talks about having an orgasm while riding a horse. A girl talks about losing her
virginity. A girl talks about how seeing pictures of Christ on the cross turns her on. A
boy licks ice cream off his girlfriend's bare belly. A girl suggestively licks an ice
cream cone. A girl pulls up her skirt and puts her hand on her underwear. A girl talks
about women in prison having brooms shoved up their "you know what" (that's what
she says). A girl stuffs something up her shirt to pad her breasts. A girl implies she has
breast implants. An older woman is obviously interested in/aroused by teenage girls in
their cheerleading outfits. Talk of trading sex for guns. A few scenes of girls in their
night gowns; a few scenes of a girl in her bra. We see the bare shoulders of a girl in a
towel. Lots of cleavage. Two transvestites.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - A girl accidentally kicks a boy in the face. A boy is hit
in the head with a football. A girl slaps a boy in the face. Threatening with guns and
shots fired; a man's hat has a hole shot through it while he's wearing it. A girl punches
another girl in the face and pulls her hair. Twice the camera scans under bathroom stalls
as we see girls passing a box of tampons to one another. We see five boys peeing at
urinals. A girl vomits twice. We watch an antelope giving birth. A pregnant girl passes
gas a few times. Talk of an ear being cut off in a video.

PROFANITY 5 - One F-word, one implied F-word, and one bleeped out F-word,
several anatomical and scatological references, a few mild obscenities, some religious
profanities, several insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Teenage pregnancy, abortion, robbery, ouija boards,
menstruation, cheerleading, broken families, living together, one character is
stereotypically gay
MESSAGE - A team of spirited cheerleaders can always figure out a way to get
things done.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
