ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

A couple fall in love while their friends try to destroy
their joy.
SEX/NUDITY 7 - A few sex scenes with thrusting and moaning but no nudity
(sometimes the man is on top and sometimes the woman is). A man and woman make-out and she
disrobes down to her panties (we see her only from the back). A man is shown in bed with
many women but no sexual activity is evident. A woman in bra and garter belt starts to
undress a man. A couple start to undress as he carries her into the bedroom (no nudity). A
couple caress through their clothes and the man kisses down the woman's body. Scantily
clad women in a few scenes (cleavage, a thong bikini reveals buttocks in one scene). Lots
of sexual innuendo which is sometimes graphic including remarks regarding masturbation,
homosexuality and oral sex. Kissing.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - Reckless driving, threatening with a gun, a couple of
scuffles, a face punch.
PROFANITY 6 - About 10 F-words, many scatological references, anatomical
references and mild obscenities, racial slurs about African-Americans spoken by
African-Americans. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Falling in love, friendship, breaking up, golddiggers, the
dating scene.
MESSAGE - True love will survive.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
