ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Rutger Hauer stars as a disgruntled cop after his dead
partner's killer, who's a cannibal/alien.
SEX/NUDITY 5 - Some upper frontal nudity with Kim Cattrall in the bathtub,
repeatedly. Some kisses, in very inappropriate moments, like when a bomb is about to blow
up.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - Some very explicit shots of victims of the cannibal/alien
with their chests ripped open and their hearts missing. Lots of blood coats walls in
bathrooms; the monster seems to have a thing for water and restrooms.
PROFANITY 7 - F-word and assorted foul language. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Dark future, death, global warming.
MESSAGE - The hero seems to subsist on nothing but caffeine, by consuming
huge amounts of coffee and chocolate. Impressionable children may decide that artificial
substances used to enhance performance are OK.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
