ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Romantic comedy with Geena Davis and Michael Keaton.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Lots of implied sex (underwear on the chair, people waking up
in bed together), but no nudity. We see one character's upper thigh when she wraps it
around another character in a heavy kissing scene.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - A woman slaps and punches a man a couple of times, and
there are some verbal arguments.
PROFANITY 5 - All the major expletives are used and most of them in one
scene (which happens to take place in a third-grade classroom). Included are several
F-words, scatological terms and other profanities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Political corruption, bribery and theft, misrepresentation,
premarital sex.
MESSAGE - Love can overcome all differences.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
