Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
A half human, half alien woman decides she wants to mate. A
team of scientists try to stop her as murder and mayhem are unleashed by her reproductive
drive.
SEX/NUDITY 8 - The alien is shown topless with her breasts clearly visible
in numerous scenes. As the alien is "born" we see her totally nude body, but
only her breasts can be clearly seen. There are several sex scenes, with nudity: In one
scene oral sex is implied. Another sex scene is extended and graphic and contains ample
nudity. A man is shown taking a shower and we briefly see the side of his buttocks. A
topless couple is shown kissing and writhing in a hot tub. The woman tries to take off his
shorts but he resists and she nearly rapes him. A woman is also nearly raped.
VIOLENCE/GORE 9 - People die from cyanide gas poisoning, a man is drowned in
a hottub and a man is killed when he is thrown across a traincar (he's shown with a broken
neck and blood on his face and mouth). But most of the many very violent and gory scenes
involve the alien. She kill numerous people by using her tendril-like appendages. In two
particularly violent scenes a woman's spine is pulled out of her body and a man has a
tendril stuck through the back of his head. A girl has tendrils erupting through her skin,
then the tendrils turn into worms. She then becomes a pulsating, bloody cocoon. In a
particularly gory scene a woman cuts off her own thumb (in close-up, we see blood and the
stump). Wormy things replace the thumb and then it becomes an actual thumb again. Another
person's thumb is cut off but off screen. The alien gives birth to a baby which looks
human but is covered in slime. The baby proceeds to shoot out a tendril, catch a rat and
crunch it in his mouth.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
