ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Julia Roberts stars as a woman who discovers hubby Dennis
Quaid is fooling around and unfortunately doesn't have time for a nervous breakdown.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - We see a bare chested man twice, some hugs and kisses. A
woman and a man fall onto a bed kissing and unbuttoning shirts (we briefly see part of her
bra). There are a few obscene sexual references, graphic sexual comments and innuendo.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - Yelling scenes between people (in one a man and woman
shove each other a bit); a woman kicks a man in the crotch causing him to fall and moan
and have trouble walking and a woman poisons a man causing him to become ill and vomit.
PROFANITY 5 - 3 F-words, approximately 20 scatological references, and many
milder obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Infidelity, child-rearing, domineering fathers, supportive
sisters, divorce.
MESSAGE - Sometimes marriages deserve a second chance; you must work on
keeping the fun in your marriage.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
