ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

A couple battles infertility in this romantic comedy.
SEX/NUDITY 5 - Oral sex is implied between a woman under the covers and a
man looking pleased. A man smells a woman's cleavage. A man and woman have sex in an
elevator, a public rest room and a ballpark (but all we see is kissing). Scantily clad
women. A man visits a room in a medical office several times where he is supposed to
masturbate amidst pornography (but nothing is shown). Many medical exams of a man and a
woman -- we do see gowns lifted and naked, spread legs. Lots of sexual innuendo (including
references to faking orgasm, oral sex, homosexuality, masturbation and gynecological
exams). Kissing.
VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - A slap. Blood is shown in a vial during a medical exam.
PROFANITY 5 - One F-word, a scatological reference, a couple of anatomical
references, some mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Infertility, marriage, infidelity, the birds and the bees.
MESSAGE - Babies are worth any trouble.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
