Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context.
Sharon Stone stars as a resident of a ritzy New York
apartment building where people have been dying mysteriously. Two eligible neighbors,
William Baldwin and Tom Berenger hit on her, while she discovers that the building is
filled with cameras following every resident's every move.
SEX/NUDITY 8 - The film deals with voyeurism and various sex scenes are
shown on black & white video monitors. One of these scenes includes a brief image of
male frontal nudity, and another is of Sharon Stone, alone in her bathtub and presumably
aroused (judging from her facial expressions). There are also a number of torrid sex
scenes in full color, with both male and female nudity. Some involve unorthodox positions,
and one scene starts out violently. There's also very explicit talk of male and female
anatomy and sexual practices.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - The film starts with a woman falling to her death, while
the camera leisurely follows her entire trip. We see her hitting the ground, and the
result is bloody. Conversely, another woman is stabbed repeatedly, but the scenes are
flashed quickly and very little is discernible. Nevertheless, we do see her bloody body
afterward. A man is shown dead in his shower, and another man is shot. Some blood is
evident.

PROFANITY 6 - About half a dozen F-words, and lots of explicit sexual talk. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
