Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context.
Gwyneth Paltrow stars as a young woman whose life seems to
be divided into two alternate realities, depending on whether she boards a subway train or
not.
SEX/NUDITY 4 - A woman discovers her boyfriend in bed and having sex with
another woman (no nudity is shown, but we see some thrusting and hear noises). Two other
sex scenes with no nudity, but some action. Sexual innuendo, including references to oral
sex.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - A woman is mugged, leaving her with a bloody gash on the
head. A woman hits a man several times. A woman falls down some stairs. A woman is hit by
a car and is killed.

PROFANITY 6 - Half a dozen British F-words, about 10 scatological terms,
several anatomical and sexual references, and several mild obscenities and insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Infidelity, fate, the unpredictability of life, trust.
MESSAGE - Even a seemingly inconsequential incident can change your life in
a dramatic way.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
