ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Harrison Ford is a pilot who crash lands with Anne Heche in
this romantic comedy.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Very scantily clad women (cleavage, a woman clearly braless
for most of the film, a woman's nearly bare buttocks in thong underwear). Kissing. Sexual
innuendo.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - A rough plane landing, and a plane crashes in a storm.
People fall from heights. People are shot at with machine guns and a man shoots and kills
another man (also threatening with guns). A couple repeatedly punch, kick and hit with
branches another couple. Cannons directed at people nearly hit them. Lots of blood is seen
on a person's chest and shirt. We also see a bloody forehead, blood on a hand, and a
bruised and cut forehead. Scuffles, chases, a fire and explosions.
PROFANITY 6 - Two F-words, one profane hand gesture, many mild obscenities
and scatological references, and a couple of anatomical references. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Vacations, flying, deserted islands, pirates.
MESSAGE - You find love in the most unlikely places.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
