ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Whoopi Goldberg plays a struggling lounge singer who
accidentally walks in on her mobster boyfriend during a murder. Offered police protection,
Goldberg must hide out in a convent, and Goldberg ends up with the task of leading the
convent's faltering choir.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - No nudity. One sex scene in which it is clear two characters
have had sex, but nothing is shown. A few references to sex.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - One scene in which a man is shot, but no blood is shown.
Some shooting and car chases. In one scene, Goldberg slugs two thugs in the groin.
PROFANITY 0 - None. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - An extra-marital affair, a murder by mobsters, light-hearted
fun poked at Catholicism.
MESSAGE - It's made clear that Goldberg may need the convent for more than
protection. "God has brought you here," says the Mother Superior. As it turns
out, however, the convent needs Goldberg as much as she needs them.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
