ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Restaurateur Sarah Michelle Gellar tries to win Sean
Patrick Flanery's heart through his stomach in this romantic comedy. Co-starring Patricia
Clarkson, Dylan Baker, Christopher Durang, Larry Gilliard, Jr. and Betty Buckley.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Sexual innuendo. Several passionate kisses and embraces; in
one scene, a man briefly sucks a woman's fingers and then they kiss while dropping onto
the floor (the scene ends before we see anything else). A man repeatedly pushes two female
dolls against each other, pretending that they're kissing and embracing. We see a woman in
her slip and several women wearing tiny or cleavage-revealing tops; we also see a man
without pants (his shirt ends mid-thigh).
VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - A woman throws -- and breaks -- many plates. A man throws
a knife into a wall and nearly hits someone.
PROFANITY 2 - A couple anatomical references, a few scatological references
(one is seen in a subtitle) and several mild obscenities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Falling in love, believing in yourself, being successful,
paranormal experiences.
MESSAGE - Destiny happens; you can't fight what is meant to be.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
