ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

In this comedy, Dan Futterman and Stuart Townsend are
orphans-turned-harmless-con-artists who convince Kate Beckinsale to help them fleece the
rich to support a good cause -- themselves. Also with Nickolas Grace, Claire Cox, Ralph
Ineson and Dominic Mafham.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Sexual innuendo. One kiss. We see several blow-up dolls
(their "breasts" are visible).
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - A man is slapped, another is punched and another is
knocked down. One playful scuffle. A man jumps from a balcony and lands on someone
(neither is injured). We see a man sitting on a toilet; he's obviously trying to have a
bowel movement.
PROFANITY 3 - One slang anatomical reference, many scatological references
and several mild obscenities and insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Con artistry, business scams, deception, being an orphan,
falling in love.
MESSAGE - Others can con you just as easily as you conned them.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
