ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Four women begin robbing banks in an effort to get enough
money to better their lives.
SEX/NUDITY 4 - Sexual innuendo, kissing, scantily clad women (including a
lesbian couple). There are two separate scenes where a naked man is thrusting on top of a
naked woman (all we see is the man's back). A man and woman kiss and rub oil over each
other as foreplay; we see the bare buttocks of each one and then we see thrusting.
VIOLENCE/GORE 8 - Scuffles, fighting, threatening with guns. A man is shot
with some blood, a teenage boy is shot many times by the police with jerking and blood and
blood gets on the shirt and hands of his sister. Two shoot-outs with many people shot and
killed with a lot of blood (smears and close-ups of bloody wounds) and jerking of bodies.
After a woman is shot there is blood on her chest and blood smeared on the floor under
her. A few armed robberies, reckless driving with car crashes.
PROFANITY 9 - 50+ F-words, one obscene gesture, many mild obscenities, many
scatological references, many anatomical references, a few racial slurs used by
African-Americans about other African-Americans. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Bank robberies, sexism, law enforcement, friendship.
MESSAGE - Two wrongs do not make a right.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
