Danny Aiello stars as the man who shot Lee Harvey Oswald.
Ruby is presented as a sympathetic figure who realizes that there's a connection between
JFK's assassination, the Mafia and the CIA.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Candy Cane, a stripper, dances in Ruby's bar, but she is
always covered up by a large feather or other prop. Insinuated sex between JFK and Candy
Cane.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - The infamous scenes that, in gory detail, show the
shooting of JFK. There is a fist fight between Ruby and Candy's estranged husband. Ruby
kills a mobster by shooting him in the head.
PROFANITY 5 - Some strong language and the F-word. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Assassination and conspiracy theories involving the
government and the mafia.
MESSAGE - Getting your point across sometimes requires drastic measures.
Dancing at a strip-joint and sexual promiscuity are shown as respectable, or at least
acceptable.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
