ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

John Lithgow is a mild-mannered child psychologist who just
happened to be the subject of numerous demented scientific experiments as a child, all of
which were performed by his father. His wife's adultery renders him seriously loopy.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - One outdoor sex scene, complete with moans and groans. But no
nudity is ever visible.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - Lithgow's deranged personality kills a mother (by
suffocation) and a babysitter (not seen) and attempts to harm a couple of others.
Lithgow's wife slashes his wrists; little blood is shown.
PROFANITY 5 - A few F-words are sprinkled here and there as well as milder
profanities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Kidnapping, murder, infidelity and mental illness.
MESSAGE - Children who have traumatic experiences grow up very troubled and
are susceptible to mental illness. When doing terrible things, sometimes they know not
what they do and cannot be held accountable.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
