ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Mix of comedy, romance and mystery taking place in a 1939
radio station.
SEX/NUDITY 4 - A quick shot of a woman's bare breasts, as well as several
women in their undies and shots of cleavage. Discussion of infidelity, and photos of a man
and woman in compromising positions (they are clothed). A couple of kisses.
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - Several people are murdered in various (some gruesome)
ways: one is poisoned, one is electrocuted, one is hung, one laughs himself to death, one
falls down an elevator shaft, another is squashed in large machine cogs, and one is shot
and falls from a tower.
PROFANITY 3 - Several scatological references and milder profanities. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Infidelity, murder.
MESSAGE - Truth will triumph. Life in an old-time radio station was pretty
hectic.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
