Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman star in this western tale of
revenge.
SEX/NUDITY 3 - Some talk of sex and one scene in which a female character
wakes up in a male character's bed, but it is not clear that sex really occurred. A few
passionate but brief kisses and a glimpse of a woman's cleavage and thigh.
VIOLENCE/GORE 6 - A great deal of violence, much of which comes off as
cartoonish. Three or four classic saloon fist fights and several shootings, resulting in a
little blood. Two scenes in which the victims have see-through holes blown through them.
We also see two hangings and a near hanging and a disturbing scene in which a child is
forced to fire a gun.

PROFANITY 3 - About a half a dozen mild profanities and insults. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Murder, torture, gambling, using intimidation and force to
gain and keep control, revenge.
MESSAGE - You can push someone just so far before he snaps and defends himself.
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
