An animated fable based on the George MacDonald tale, about
a naive young girl who must come to terms with her fears in order to save her Kingdom.
SEX/NUDITY 0 - None.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - There are a couple of all-out battles with the goblins. A
cat has a fight with a goblin-cat-creature, who later threatens the Princess. A goblin dog
is kicked and punched, but we only see the shadows of these actions. Curdie, the Princess'
champion, fights goblins with a large club, and a sword, but, most of the harm comes from
the goblins getting their sensitive feet stomped on. A beast of burden gets whipped. A
goblin's hand comes out of the ground and tries to drag a cat in. Curdie falls 30 or 40
feet onto some rocks and is momentarily dazed. Curdie's bloodied leg is shown, after he
falls down some stone stairs. A goblin falls from a waterfall to his doom.
PROFANITY 0 - None. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Kidnapping, defending your home from invasion.
MESSAGE - Some point is made about the magic of "good against
evil," which involves doing what you think is right in spite of opposition.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
