Richard Gere is a high-powered defense attorney who decides
to represent a young man accused of murdering an archbishop.
SEX/NUDITY 6 - Sexual innuendo. A brief scene from a homemade porn video has
young men and a woman (the woman is topless and one of the men's buttocks are evident)
caressing each other.
VIOLENCE/GORE 7 - A man's fingers are chopped off in a bloody close-up. The
murder scene is shown a few times as are photos of the bloody corpse, shown with deep,
bloody knife wounds and gouged out eyes. A young man with bloodstained clothes is chased;
another foot chase with another man, a few fistfights and scuffles. A man's earring is
ripped leading to a gush of blood.
PROFANITY 8 - 25+ F-words, many scatological references, many mild
obscenities, some anatomical references. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - The legal system, multiple personality disorder.
MESSAGE - Defense attorneys are able to defend someone who's guilty because
they believe in the legal process.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
