Toby Maguire and Reese Witherspoon play a pair of
1990's siblings launched into the world of a 1950's black and white television
show. Also with Joan Allen, Jeff Daniels, William H. Macy, Don Knotts and J.T. Walsh.
SEX/NUDITY 5 - Lots of heavy petting, sexual innuendo and a couple of
make-out scenes that set cars a-rockin' (sex is suggested). A boy loses his
virginity. A girl masturbates in the bathtub -- we don't see the act; the shot is
from the shoulders up -- but we do see the ecstasy in her facial expressions and hear it
in her voice (she exclaims "Oh my goodness!"). A few shots of a young woman
wearing only a bra. We also see some nude paintings: one painting shows male frontal
nudity and another shows a woman's breasts.
VIOLENCE/GORE 1 - One punch and a bloody lip. A park bench gets thrown at a
window. A mob burns a bunch of books.
PROFANITY 5 - One F-word, several mild obscenities and a few scatological

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Sexual initiation, the ‘50s vs. the present, inhibiting
emotions, avoiding pleasure.
MESSAGE - Being honest with yourself (for better or worse) adds a great deal
