ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|
Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context. |

Tim Robbins as a major studio executive who does away with
a disgruntled screenwriter only to find his position threatened by the resulting murder
investigation and his growing involvement with Greta Scacchi, who plays the girlfriend of
the late writer.
SEX/NUDITY 7 - Very brief frontal nudity (really "three-quarters
view" nudity) when Robbins climbs out of a mud bath. It's very quick. Brief female
nudity of a woman swimming at a spa. Mild love-making scene.
VIOLENCE/GORE 2 - No gore, but one violent scene involving a street brawl.
An accidental death occurs. No blood is spilled.
PROFANITY 5 - The F-word pops up occasionally, as do other less harsh
expressions. Not to excess, however. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Flip-flopping loyalties in the movie biz are examined. A bit
of voyeurism is depicted.
MESSAGE - Nice Guys Finish Last seems to be the message, but the satirical
spin makes one reconsider that.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
