ASSIGNED NUMBERS |
|
|

Robin Wright stars as a woman who has a baby out of wedlock
in 1950's Ireland.
SEX/NUDITY 2 - A pregnant woman's water breaks and we see it. She walks
about in a house dress or a slip. No nudity. A villager pays one of the show women to see
her breasts, we don't see them. Intimated sex in a trailer (it's vibrating).
VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - One of the characters commits suicide by using a shotgun,
we don't see the result, other than a lot of blood.
PROFANITY 2 - Some anatomical language. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Unwed motherhood. IRA and political problems.
MESSAGE - Robin Wright plays an independent young woman who has a right to
do whatever she wants, including having a baby when she is not married. Obsession is
self-destruction.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
