Unlike the MPAA we do not assign
one
inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE
and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest,
depending on quantity and context.
An animated feature with the voices of Martin Short, James
Belushi and Tim Curry. A penguin tries to win the heart of his beloved by finding a
special pebble and presenting it to her.
SEX/NUDITY 1 - In an animated Pink Panther cartoon (shown before "The
Pebble and the Penguin") an animated woman runs out of a department store with only
her underwear on. The penguins talk about love and mating and there are some hugs.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - The aforementioned Pink Panther cartoon features car
chases, yelling, and Pink Panther getting knocked around. In the main feature, a penguin
is shoved, threatened and falls down a few times; he is thrown into the ocean, taken
aboard a ship and caged; and he encounters seals and a killer whale who nearly eat him.

PROFANITY 1 - Many insults and taunts between the penguins, but no
profanity. There is a veiled reference to an offensive gesture during the Pink Panther
cartoon. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we
started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were
not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many
older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please
keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period.
While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are
limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
