A young boy (Macaulay Culkin) is sent on the adventure of
his life by The Pagemaster, keeper of the books and guardian of the written word.
SEX/NUDITY 0 - None.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - A boy on his bike hits a tree. A man gets hit in the head
by a bucket on a pulley. A boy slips and falls and cracks his head. The cartoon segment is
filled with swashbuckling-type action, but nobody really gets hurt. One character falls
down a hole in the floor, and a pirate gets conked with a coconut. A boat is smashed by a
whale and a magic carpet has a crash landing. There are several scary looking characters
and scenes.
PROFANITY 0 - None. [profanity glossary]
DISCUSSION TOPICS - Parenthood traumas.
MESSAGE - Books are good -- and great fun: they contain many adventures.

A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process. |
