Unlike the MPAA we do not assign one inscrutable rating based on age, but 3 objective ratings for SEX/NUDITY, VIOLENCE/GORE and PROFANITY on a scale of 0 to 10, from lowest to highest, depending on quantity and context.
In this remake of Neil Simon's play, empty-nesters Steve
Martin and Goldie Hawn take a trip to New York City that tests their marriage and their
sanity. Also with John Cleese and Mark McKinney. [1:31]
SEX/NUDITY 5 - Lots of sexual innuendo: in one scene, people discuss sexual
problems and make references to masturbation, promiscuity and bondage. A couple of
passionate kisses. We briefly see a man with his pants down lying on top of a clothed
woman and it's implied that they were having intercourse. We briefly see a few S&M
toys -- whips, etc. -- hanging on a wall and a woman wearing a leather outfit (only her
shoulders and face are visible). We see a woman in a cleavage-revealing nightgown and a
man in his boxers.
VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Nearly all played for laughs: There are two mild instances
of threatening with guns. And some reckless driving: a man and woman jump out of a car
(they're not injured) and a car drives through an open air market, smashing some stands. A
man and woman are knocked down when suitcases hit them and a woman accidentally shoves
several others. A man nearly falls off the side of a building. A woman grabs and pulls
another by the arm. We see and hear a man urinating.

PROFANITY 3 - A few anatomical references (one is clinical), some mild
obscenities and a few insults. [profanity glossary]
A CAVEAT: We've gone through several editorial changes since we started covering films in 1992 and some of our early standards were not as stringent as they are now. We therefore need to revisit many older reviews, especially those written prior to 1998 or so; please keep this in mind if you're consulting a review from that period. While we plan to revisit and correct older reviews our resources are limited and it is a slow, time-consuming process.
