Based on the novel by David Nicholls: Two university graduates (Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess) meet on their graduation day and almost have sex, but when circumstances complicate their plans, they agree to just be friends. They remain very close friends for years and help each other through moments of doubt, disappointment and broken relationships, while obviously still attracted to each other. SEX/NUDITY 7 - A fully nude woman (her bare buttocks are shown) balances on the foot of a bed frame while a man watches her from the bed (his bare chest and abdomen are shown); she jumps onto the bed (her bare shoulders and upper chest are seen), they embrace and kiss and sex is implied.
 We see fully nude men and women on a nudist beach; we see a man's scrotum between his legs when he bends over, women's bare breasts, buttocks, backs and legs. A nude man gets out of a swimming pool and chases two teen boys that stole his clothing, he stops outside a restaurant where many people are seated and wraps a plastic bag around his waist (we see his bare back, buttocks and legs). Several women wearing skin-tight outfits dance suggestively and two different women wearing bikini tops sit in a pool filled with bubbles on a TV show. A man undresses (it is implied that he is fully nude and his bare buttocks are seen briefly) and jumps into a pool; a woman that's with him also undresses (her arm covers her bare breasts and it isn't clear whether she is wearing panties or not) and joins him in the water.
 A man and a woman kiss, they undress each other (we see the man wearing boxer shorts and his bare chest and abdomen are visible while the woman wears a full slip that reveals cleavage and bare shoulders), the woman leaves the room, the man waits for her in bed, the woman returns wearing a bra and panties covered by a robe (her cleavage and bare abdomen are visible) and the two cuddle in bed (no sex is implied).
 A man and a woman talk about having a child together, they kiss, the woman unbuttons the man's shirt (his bare chest and abdomen are visible), she is seated and wearing a teddy (her cleavage, bare shoulders and bare legs are seen), the man moves between her legs and they kiss (sex is implied). We see a married woman wearing a robe and sitting on a bed in a hotel room where a man (not her husband) wearing a towel around his waist (his bare chest and abdomen are visible) sits next to her and rubs her shoulders (sex is implied).
 A man and several different women kiss in several scenes. A man and a woman kiss a few times at their wedding. It is suggested that a man had numerous sexual relationships with women.
 A woman caresses a man's shoulders. A man applies sunscreen to a woman's back and massages her suggestively (she gets up and goes for a swim). A man and a woman hug in a few scenes.
 A woman wears a low-cut top that reveals cleavage in a few scenes. A woman wears low-cut dresses that reveal cleavage in several scenes. A woman is shown wearing a one-piece swimsuit (her bare back, shoulders and legs are visible) several times while swimming laps in a pool. A woman wears a low-cut tank top (cleavage and bare shoulders are visible). A man is shown seated on a toilet with his pants around his ankles (his bare knees and calves are seen) and it is implied that he is defecating.
 A man asks a woman, "Do you want to finish what we started?" and they run toward his apartment and kiss (they are interrupted and no sex occurs). A man asks a woman, "Do you fancy a little afternoon delight?" and she does not respond. A man and a woman talk about having slept together. At a wedding a woman asks her date if he "slept with everyone here". A woman talks to a man at a wedding about his having slept with the bride. A man talks to a woman about his girlfriend and that they have "sex all the time." A woman tells a man that she had a crush on him years ago. A woman discusses a list of rules that will be enforced if she and her male friend go on vacation together including no flirting, no nudity, no skinny-dipping, etc. A man and a woman talk about "group sex" and joke about "orgies." A woman talks to a man about "going to bed" with people. A man tells a woman "you're sexy." A wife tells her husband "I'm not pregnant."
 It is implied that an unmarried man and a woman sleep together at her apartment and then buy an apartment and live together.

VIOLENCE/GORE 4 - A bicyclist is struck by a truck and thrown, we see the bike being dragged under the truck as it stops, and the victim is shown with a twisted leg, a bloody foot and face and a pool of blood is shown on the street (the victim dies).
 A man picks a fight with another man in a bar: the man punches him several times in the face and we see him later with a bloody and bruised face and hand (we see him recovered later). A woman is shown wearing a headscarf and she appears very weak (it is implied that she is undergoing cancer treatments). A young girl finds her father unconscious, bloody and bruised in a hallway after a bar fight.
 A woman yells at a man and tells him she doesn't like him anymore. A man yells at his adult son for being drunk when coming to visit his mother and takes his car keys away. A woman tells her adult son, "I worry that you are not very nice anymore." A man and a woman argue. We hear that a woman died of cancer.
 Several people play a game at a dinner party and we see two contestants blindfolded and one strikes the other in the head repeatedly with a rolled up paper; two different contestants then play and one hits the other hard in the face causing her to fall back and we see blood on her nose. A man is shown seated on a toilet with his pants around his ankles (bare knees and calves are seen) and it is implied that he is defecating. A woman tells a man that she doesn't want to see him urinating in the shower or otherwise. A woman tells a man, "I will murder you."

LANGUAGE 5 - At least 1 F-word, 6 sexual references, 1 mild scatological term, 2 anatomical terms, 3 mild obscenities, 2 derogatory terms for the French, name-calling (insane, bratty, rude, arrogant, appalling, wanker), 1 religious profanity, 5 religious exclamations.

SUBSTANCE USE - A man snorts cocaine with several other men, a woman accuses a man of taking cocaine. People at a bar are shown holding glasses containing alcoholic beverages and several are shown drinking, a man and a woman drink shots of Tequila at a restaurant, a glass of wine is shown on a table where a woman is seated, a man drinks an alcoholic beverage in the morning, a man and a woman drink wine with dinner, a man drinks a beer, a man and a woman drink brandy after dinner, a man and a woman drink wine, people drink alcohol at a dinner party, people drink alcohol at a wedding reception, and a man and a woman drink wine.
